The bhairava kona temply drags the people by the surroundings on the occasions karthika puranam(full moon day) and in the holidays specially on monsoons to take bath under the water falls. lets come to the HISTORY this temple is constructed around in the 7th century A.D here we can see the Pancha Bhoota Lingas(5 forms siva lingas) those are Prithvi(earth) lingam,jala(water) lingam,agni(fir) lingam,vayu(air) lingam,akasa(sky) lingam actually among those some are destroyed the ancient sadhus use to meditate in that caves. in fact the Pancha Bhoota Lingas are located respectively in kanchi, jambukeswaram, arunachalm, sri kalahasti, chidambaram.
An interesting feature that attracts devotes to this place is that moon night falls on the idol of trimuka durgadevi (on the face of idol) on the day of karthika pournami and maha shivaratri the moon light falls on the water reflects on durga devi goddess durgadevi and lord shiva are workshiped in single garbhagriha in this temple. We can see the goddess durga behind the main shivaling in the temple . during the karthika pournami, moon light reflects on both god and goddness.
Bhairava means "Terrible" or "Frightful" sometimes known as Kala Bhairava, is a Hindu deity, a fierce manifestation of Shiva associated with annihilation.
